NEWARK FIRE STATION NO.1
Description
This ground-up, classically designed, brick-clad fire station anchors Newark’s “Old-Town” master plan. The facade belies state-of-the-art technology enhancing firefighters’ well-being and readiness. The classical architectural expression of this essential public facility inaugurated Old Town, catalyzing what Gertrude Stein would call a “there there”.
The traditional fire station expression of this new building is manifested by brick masonry and large apparatus bay doors, achieving:
a) compatibility with classic building architecture
b) excellent emergency operations functions and firetrucks’ response time to calls
c) sustainable design of daylighting through glazing
